Remembering winter running in the East: I had never even heard if indoor track until I ran in college. We trained on a 200-meter banked, rubberized track which was actually pretty fast once you found your rhythm. You had to do 8 laps to equal a mile, which meant we did more laps than I care to remember. The only downside was they usually heat the buildings, so by the time you are done your have a horrible hacking cough and burning lungs. . . .
More on those crazy, hazy, oh, just plain cold days in the Northeast in this week's column, which will appear New Year's morning in the Monterey Herald.
After Blake Russell competed for the U.S. in 2008 Beijing Olympics her life changed drastically. In 2009, she gave birth to Quin and the already active Russell household in Pacific Grove turned it up a notch. Russell is now back in training, hoping to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics while making an Olympian effort to be a good wife and mother.
